The Platen Press Museum’s Annual Sale Is Next Weekend!

2011 Type Sale

Run by printer Paul Aken, the Platen Press Museum is home to a monstrous collection of letterpresses, typecasting machinery, and historical printing equipment. Mr. Aken holds a sale each year to clear out debris from the museum, and this year’s sale will be next Saturday, May 7th, from 9am to 2pm.

The Print Shop went last year with our friend and fellow printer Elisabeth Long and picked up some really great stuff. It’s a fun place to meet other printers, and if you’re lucky (as we were), Mr. Aken will cast your name on his linotype machine and you’ll have a super souvenir to take home!

The reception will be at Columbia’s Center for Book and Paper Arts (618 S. Michigan, second floor) from 5-7pm.
